Taught by Jim Cassidy, this course provides instruction in the basics of Christian doctrine through the introductory catechism formulated at the Westminster Assembly (1643–1653). It covers questions 39–107 of the Westminster Shorter Catechism, addressing “what duty God requires of man.” Students will explore the moral law (as summarily comprehended in the Ten Commandments), faith and repentance, the means of grace, and the nature of prayer. The course will guide students through the practical and doctrinal aspects of living a life of faith, with special emphasis on the preaching of the Word, the Lord's Prayer, and the sacraments of baptism and the Lord’s Supper. Through rigorous study and reflection, students will be equipped to apply these teachings especially to corporate worship. With sustained focus on the biblical proof texts used in the Catechism, this course will set forth the Reformed system of doctrine as a distillation of the truth of Holy Scripture.
