Course Overview
Write your awesome label here.
This course seeks to cover a significant amount of biblical material in a short period of time. It will be an overview of the book of Job and its theology. Special attention will be given to situating the book’s theology in its redemptive-historical and canonical context. Therefore, the course will pursue a biblical-theological method of interpretation that will necessarily be eschatological and Christological.
There will be non-trivial pastoral application, particularly to the questions of care for the suffering and how to glorify God in the midst of “the fiery trial.” Last of all, we will give brief attention to the question of theodicy and how Job speaks to key apologetic insights by Cornelius Van Til.

Interpret the Book of Job through a biblical-theological and redemptive-historical lens, situating its theology in light of the covenants and the overarching canonical context of Scripture.
Articulate the typology present in the Book of Job, explaining how Job serves as a type of the suffering servant and how his trials prefigure Christ’s atoning work.
Contrast the perspectives of Job, his friends, Elihu, and God, and assess their respective understandings of divine justice, human righteousness, and the role of suffering in the believer’s life.
Identify the pastoral applications of the book for believers undergoing trials, especially in terms of lament, faithfulness amid affliction, and proper speech before God.
