Taught by Dr. Lane G. Tipton, this course explores the person of Jesus Christ as the eternal Son of God, focusing on the theological, biblical, and historical foundations of Reformed Christology. Organized around the threefold framework of the Logos asarkos (the pre-existent Word), Logos incarnandus (the Word foreordained to assume human nature), and Logos ensarkos (the Word incarnate), students will examine the eternal generation of the Son, the pactum salutis, the hypostatic union, the divine and human natures of Christ, and the implications of each nature for his mediatorial work. The course also considers historical controversies, the ecumenical creeds, and confessional articulations in the Westminster Confession of Faith. Students will engage with biblical texts and classic Reformed primary sources to develop a coherent understanding of the Christological foundation of the Christian faith.
