Dr. Camden M. Bucey guides students through a theological and historical study of Christian identity, using key moments in Orthodox Presbyterian Church history to illuminate the church’s calling as a pilgrim people. Framed around four central questions, Who are we? Where are we going? Are we there yet? and How will we get there?, the course weaves together biblical theology, covenant theology, eschatology, and church history to show how the people of God are united to Christ, sustained in the wilderness, and directed toward their heavenly rest.
Rather than offering a mere denominational survey, the course uses historical vignettes from the OPC, especially the legacy of J. Gresham Machen and the church’s early struggles, to explore the identity, mission, and perseverance of Christ’s church. Along the way, students will consider themes such as union with Christ, the tree of life, Sabbath rest, the church’s pilgrim character, and the Great Commission, learning to interpret both church history and the Christian life in light of God’s redemptive purposes from Genesis to Revelation.
