Taught by Jim Cassidy, this course provides instruction in the basics of Christian doctrine through the introductory catechism formulated at the Westminster Assembly (1643–1653). It covers the first 38 questions of the Westminster Shorter Catechism, addressing “what man is to believe concerning God.” Students will engage with key doctrines such as the nature and attributes of God, the purpose of human existence, the fall of man, and the covenant of grace. The course will also delve into the person and work of Jesus Christ and the Spirit’s application of Christ's redemption to the believer. Through a combination of theological study and practical application, students will gain a deeper understanding of the core tenets of Reformed theology. With sustained focus on the biblical proof texts used in the Catechism, this course will set forth the Reformed system of doctrine as a distillation of the truth of Holy Scripture.
