Course Overview

Write your awesome label here.
Taught by Dr. Mark Winder, this course provides a non-technical introduction to the first five books of the Old Testament, known as the Pentateuch or Torah. Combining elements of biblical survey, biblical introduction, and biblical theology, each lesson has a threefold purpose: (1) to help students grasp the historical context, authorship, date, and purpose of each book; (2) to trace each book’s significant theological themes and their development; and (3) to examine how Christ is the center of each book by exploring Christological themes within the unified story of Scripture. In sum, this introduction will enable students to know more about Moses, his books, and most importantly, how the prophet and his writings point to the person and work of Jesus Christ.

Course Objectives

Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:

Summarize the historical context, authorship, and purpose of each of the first five books of the Bible, commonly referred to as the Pentateuch or Torah.
Identify key theological themes such as creation, covenant, holiness, and redemption as they emerge across Genesis through Deuteronomy.
Recognize how the writings of Moses point forward to the person and work of Jesus Christ, deepening appreciation for the unified story of Scripture.
Apply insights from the Pentateuch to the Christian life today, becoming better equipped to share the gospel and obey God’s commandments.
