Taught by Dr. Lane G. Tipton, this course combines exegetical, biblical, and systematic theology to set forth the glorious truth of the Reformed doctrine of the plan of salvation.
Building upon the work of Benjamin B. Warfield in his classic book, The Plan of Salvation, students will examine historical views of the plan of salvation, such as Pelagianism, Roman Catholicism, various forms of Arminianism, post-Reformation Lutheranism, and Calvinism. As the course unfolds, Dr. Tipton will ask and answer the following basic questions: Who saves? How does God save? On what basis does God save?
Dr. Tipton concludes the course with a defense of Calvinism in light of biblical teaching drawn from Romans 9:6–24 and Ephesians 1:3–14.

Distinguish between biblical, exegetical, and systematic theology, and explain how these theological disciplines interrelate and contribute to a coherent and faithful understanding of the plan of salvation.
Differentiate between historical views of the plan of salvation—including Pelagianism, Roman Catholicism, Arminianism, Lutheranism, and Calvinism—by evaluating how each view answers the questions: Who saves? How does God save? On what basis does God save?
Articulate the biblical and systematic foundations of unconditional election as taught in Romans 9 and Ephesians 1, emphasizing God’s sovereign grace in choosing, redeeming, and sealing a people for himself through the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.
Apply the doctrine of salvation to personal faith and worship, demonstrating how God's eternal, sovereign, and gracious plan of redemption produces humility, assurance, and joy in the life of the believer.
